Silver has always been a sign of special distinction and elegance when it is on the handles of canes.
A fact that characterizes virtually every era, but, as far as silver in particular is concerned, shiny metal had its luckiest season at the beginning of the last century. Coinciding with the affirmation of the art movement of Art Nouveau, also known by the English word liberty, derived directly from Arthur Lasenby Liberty’s London store, famous for marketing furniture and objects decorated with a “floral style”.
The Art Nouveau aesthetic was strongly characterized by references to the graceful lines of the of natural world and the female figure, and by stylistic representations of exotic literary passages.
